Please include your macOS version and what Guru Route shows in Settings → Diagnostics.

Install and allow the extension

  1. Open Guru Route. The window shows the setup steps.
  2. Next to “Install the extension”, click Install.
  3. macOS will say the extension is blocked. Click Open System Settings, then in General → Login Items & Extensions → Network Extensions turn on Guru Route Proxy.
  4. When macOS asks to add proxy configurations, click Allow.
  5. Add the apps that need the VPN with the + button or drag them into the window. Then turn Guru Route on.

“VPN not connected”

Guru Route does not create a VPN. It sends the apps you chose through the VPN you set up in macOS. Connect that VPN in System Settings → VPN or in your VPN app.

If every app still goes through the VPN, open System Settings → VPN, click ⓘ next to your VPN, then Options. Turn off “Send all traffic over VPN connection”, click OK and reconnect the VPN. The Guru Route window reminds you when this is needed.

Restore a purchase

The purchase belongs to your Apple Account. On another Mac or after reinstalling, open Guru Route Settings → General and click Restore Purchase. The same button is in the purchase window.

If apps can’t connect

Turn Guru Route off with the switch in its window or with Turn Off Guru Route in the menu bar. All apps then connect as if Guru Route were not installed. Settings → Diagnostics shows what went wrong.

If Guru Route itself won’t open, go to System Settings → VPN and turn off “Guru Route”.

Uninstall

  1. Turn Guru Route off and quit it.
  2. In Finder, drag Guru Route from Applications to the Trash. macOS will ask for your password and remove the extension along with the app.
  3. If System Settings → VPN still lists “Guru Route”, delete it.

Uninstall only through Finder. If you delete the app with a Terminal command, the extension stays in the system.
